POSITION SUMMARY:

The Art Therapist, under the supervision of the Deputy Center Manager, will be contracted to assess the needs of journalists working in challenging conditions and to design and facilitate art therapy sessions tailored to their specific requirements. These sessions will take place as part of a retreat in the Western part of Ukraine in February 2025.

IREX will prioritize local nationals based in Ukraine or the region, with unrestricted travel to Ukraine and experience working with Ukrainian media professionals.

This is a part-time consultancy role, with an estimated commitment of approximately 15 working days, including preparation, implementation, and reporting.
 

GENERAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Collaborate with the Deputy Center Manager and Psychosocial Safety Trainer to conduct a comprehensive needs assessment to understand the psychosocial challenges and requirements of journalists attending the retreat.
● Design and develop art therapy session plans tailored to the identified needs of journalists working in high-stress environments.
● Facilitate art therapy sessions during the retreat, creating a safe and supportive environment that fosters creative expression and emotional resilience.
● Ensure the sessions are sensitive to the regional and cultural context of participants.
● Participate in planning and debrief meetings with the Deputy Center Manager to ensure alignment with overall program objectives.
● Monitor participants’ engagement and provide feedback to the Deputy Center Manager for evaluation and improvement purposes.
● Report on the activities and outcomes of the sessions as required by the Deputy Center Manager.
 

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
● Advanced qualifications in Art Therapy, Psychology, or a related field, typically demonstrated by equivalent certification.
● Ability to communicate professionally and conduct sessions in Ukrainian.
● Demonstrated experience in designing and facilitating art therapy sessions, particularly for individuals exposed to high-stress or trauma-inducing environments.
● Familiarity with the challenges faced by journalists and media professionals, particularly those operating in Ukraine.
● Sensitivity to the cultural and regional context of Ukraine, with the ability to tailor therapeutic approaches accordingly.
● Ability to work collaboratively and in coordination with other experts and tailoring approach to specific needs.
● Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills.
● Experience working with media professionals is an asset.

IREX may at its discretion ask for additional information, including references. Issuing this call does not commit IREX to select any applicant/expert. IREX may hire more than one applicant/expert from this call. IREX reserves the right, based on the availability of funding and consultant performance, to increase the duration and/or enter into subsequent contractual agreements with the selected candidates without re-publicizing the opportunity, for a period of up to three years.
