POSITION SUMMARY:
The Psychotherapist, under the supervision of the Deputy Center Manager, will be contracted to provide individual therapeutic consultations for journalists working in challenging conditions. These consultations will take place as part of a retreat in the western part of Ukraine in February offering participants tailored psychosocial support in a safe and confidential environment.
IREX will prioritize local nationals based in Ukraine or the region, with unrestricted travel to Ukraine and experience working with Ukrainian media professionals.
This is a part-time consultancy role, with an estimated commitment of approximately 15 working days, including preparation, implementation, and reporting.

GENERAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate with the Deputy Center Manager and Psychosocial Safety Trainer to assess the specific psychosocial needs of participating journalists prior to the retreat.
- Create a supportive and confidential atmosphere for therapeutic work, ensuring participant well-being and do no more harm approach throughout the process.
- Provide individual psychotherapy and/or consultancy sessions during the retreat, upon referral or request, including addressing stress, trauma, and other challenges faced by journalists in high-risk or emotionally demanding environments.
- Document and report on key insights and outcomes (anonymized) to the Deputy Center Manager as required.
- Participate in planning and debrief meetings with the Deputy Center Manager to align activities with the overall program objectives.
- Advanced qualifications in Psychology, Psychotherapy, or a related field, typically demonstrated by equivalent certification.
- Ability to communicate professionally and conduct sessions in Ukrainian
- Demonstrated experience providing individual therapy to individuals exposed to trauma or high-stress environments.
- Familiarity with the unique challenges faced by journalists and media professionals in conflict zones or high-risk situations.
- Understanding of cultural and regional nuances in Ukraine to ensure therapy sessions are contextually appropriate.
- Ability to work collaboratively and in coordination with other experts and tailoring approach to specific needs.
- Experience working with media professionals is an asset.
