About the Program 

IREX’s Digital Engagement: Safe and Smart (DES&S) program aims to develop and test digital engagement resources that will improve the ability of youth and adults in Slovakia to recognize and resist manipulative information. DES&S will engage with students in grades 7-9, teachers, and parents and caregivers using a tailored curriculum focused on critical thinking, information consumption, digital citizenship, and digital wellness.  

  

Summary of Position 

DESS seeks a pool of qualified Digital Engagement Curriculum Development and Training Experts to provide input and subject matter expertise for the program. The consultants will contribute to the development and rollout of the curriculum, training of teachers, adaptation and development of a parents and caregivers guide, and assessment of program results. Consultants should have expertise in some or all of the following areas: digital media engagement, media landscape in Slovakia; manipulative information in general and how it affects Slovakia in particular; media and information literacy; digital citizenship; digital wellness; training; work with teachers, students, and/or parents and caregivers; scalable education sector initiatives; and/or curriculum development. 

The projected timeline for this consulting opportunity is approximately 6 months, from November 2024 to April 2025, with the possibility of extension.  

  

Summary of Responsibilities: 

  • Participate in Learn to Discern and digital engagement training with IREX. 

  • Provide subject matter expertise for the development of resources on digital media and information engagement and digital citizenship, including a curriculum and accompanying lesson plans and presentation decks for teachers in Slovakia.  

  • Provide examples, case studies and assessment strategies to be incorporated into curricula and lesson plans.  

  • Train parents and caregivers in digital media engagement and digital citizenship. 

  • Contribute to the adaptation of a parents’ and caregivers’ guide. 

  • Review and provide feedback on content before launch of courses 

  • Regular reporting and communication with IREX point of contact. 

  • Other duties related to project as assigned. 

Skills and Qualifications: 

  • University degree in media, communications, journalism, education or pedagogy, psychology, data science, social science, or related subjects.  

  • Experience training students, youth and adults. 

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a relevant field, including but not limited to media, communications, training, research, or education sector.  

  • Proven experience in disciplines related to communication and demonstrated understanding of media landscape and media environment in Slovakia.  

  • Knowledge of and/or experience working with various research methodologies and monitoring and evaluation approaches. 

  • Professional experience working for international programs or organizations is preferred. 

  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks. 

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills. 

  • Demonstrated high attention to detail.  

  • Fluency in English and Slovak is required.
