Summary of Position:

IREX seeks qualified Senior Youth Technical Specialist candidates to support the USAID-funded Ghana Youth Activity. The Activity will support rural and urban youth in northern Ghana with a range of sustainable opportunities, tools, and support systems that enable youth to improve their livelihoods, increase their abilities to contribute as both economically and socially productive individuals, promote peace, and become engaged community members. The activity will give special attention to the needs of girls, the disabled, and other disadvantaged groups. Based in Accra or Tamale, the Youth Specialist will support the Chief of Party in the implementation of the program and provide high-quality technical inputs to achieve program objectives.

Only citizens of Ghana or permanent residents with work authorization will be considered. 
This position is contingent on funding.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical expertise across program activities ensuring coordinated excellence towards achieving the following results: increasing high quality economic opportunities for youth, increasing appropriate, high-quality, and timely health care for youth, strengthening youth engagements in communities, and strengthening the agency of youth specifically in northern Ghana.
  • Provide individualized technical assistance and support to youth-led and youth-serving organizations, with a particular focus on marginalized youth
  • Support integration of PYD approaches in all technical interventions ensuring that young people have the appropriate assets, agency, contributions and enabling environment to meaningfully engage with activities and aims.
  • Facilitate dialogue and collaboration with key private sector, government, and civil society actors to develop activities which build youth skills, promote youth participation in decision-making, and enhance government services, practices, and policies. 
  • Oversee and provide guidance and mentoring support to technical teams.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Ghanaian citizenship or residency with work authorization is required
  • A master’s degree in a relevant field with a minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in northern Ghana, experience working on programs focused on youth leadership development, employment/entrepreneurship, health care, and/or engagement in communities; supporting USAID / other international donor-funded programs preferred; or bachelor’s degree with five (5) years of relevant experience also considered.
  • Demonstrated success in promoting northern Ghanaian youth access to economic opportunities, health care services, and/or strengthening youth leadership through targeted support of local northern Ghanaian youth-led and youth-serving organizations.
  • Demonstrated success in establishing strong working relationships with senior government officials; youth groups; civil society, and private sector leaders; international donors; and other stakeholders to promote youth leadership opportunities and participation as decision makers
  • Deep understanding of PYD principles and experience with the deployment of PYD approaches
  • Proven experience building consensus among diverse actors
  • Ability to communicate professionally and provide written reporting in English is required
